John Bilezikjian is one of our country’s most esteemed & versatile oudists. He has been performing his large & varied repertoire -- which includes folksong in 11 languages -- for over 50 years. He has given a command performance for King Juan Carlos I & Queen Sofia of Spain, performed as a soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, & accompanied Leonard Cohen. For this performance, Mr. Bilezikjian will play music from a tradition with origins reaching back before the Christian era. The oud itself is said to have been invented by the sixth grandson of Adam, the first man. According to Persian folklore, this grandson, a father himself, fashioned the instrument to resemble his dead son’s skeleton.

Accordionist Barry Fisher heads “Ellis Island,” Los Angeles’s oldest klezmer band, & is known for his collaborations with Romani, Mexican, & Eastern European performers. Mr. Fisher’s work in international human rights law has enabled wide travels and fruitful encounters with other musicians all over the globe.

ALL RESERVATIONS ARE WILL-CALL. No tickets will be mailed to you. Please address queries to events@mjt.org. If you wish to be added to our events mailing list, please write "SUBSCRIBE" in the subject header of your e-mail.

This performance is supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.
