The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Information is very pleased to announce an evening of performance of Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber's "The Glorious Mysteries" by Andrew Nathaniel McIntosh on baroque violins and Arthur Omura on harpsichord.

Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber (1644-1704), widely considered the finest violinist of his age and one of the most significant composers for violin in the Western canon, composed the 15 Mystery Sonatas (known also as the Rosary Sonatas or the Copper-Plate Engraving Sonatas) in the 1670s. The sonatas are divided into three cycles: The Joyful Mysteries, The Sorrowful Mysteries, and The Glorious Mysteries. Each sonata corresponds to a moment in the Stations of the Cross and features the violin in a unique and sometimes radical tuning that musically reflects the content of the imagery. For this Tea Room concert, violinist Andrew Nathaniel McIntosh and keyboardist Arthur Omura will perform The Glorious Mysteries, the final cycle of Biber's sonatas.
