Shirley Hunt returns to the Museum of Jurassic Technology, where she has previously given very fondly remembered Tula Tea Room performances of J.S. Bach's Suites Nos. 1, 2, & 4 for unaccompanied cello.

Noted for her stylish interpretations, luminescent stage presence, and ambitious collection of musical projects, cellist and viola da gamba player Shirley Hunt brings fierce imagination and integrity to music of the Renaissance, Baroque, 20th and 21st centuries.

Shirley performs extensively with local and international period instrument ensembles including Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, American Bach Soloists, Musica Angelica, L’Academie Baroque Orchestra, and Sonnambula Viol Consort.  Other recent engagements include performances with Boston Baroque, Mark Morris Dance Group, Portland Baroque Orchestra, and the San Francisco Symphony.  Festival appearances include the New Hampshire Music Festival, Corona del Mar Baroque Festival, La Jolla Music Society and the Berkeley and Boston Early Music Festivals.

J.S. Bach's solo suites for cello, composed c.1720, were not widely known or played until the twentieth century. The absence of an authoritative manuscript has resulted in an extraordinary variety of interpretations, such that one cellist has remarked that the suites are "like a great diamond with so many different cuts that reflect light in so many different ways."
