The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Information is very pleased to present an evening of Persian classical music performed by Sahba Motallebi on tar & setar and Mehdi Bagheri on kamancheh.

Sahba Motallebi is a world music artist who was born in Iran and moved to Southern California 10 years ago, where she now resides. She is a Persian musician & composer, and plays Tar, Shoorangiz, and Setar. She is also the author of two books on Persian classical music, Tolou and Niayesh. A virtuoso of Tar and Setar, Sahba is an internationally renowned musician. She has been awarded the best Tar player by the Iranian Music Festival for four consecutive years and has traveled around the globe presenting Persian music to enthusiasts in numerous countries. To date, Sahba has released a number of CDs. A graduate of CalArts in world performance music performance and dance, she has been an ambassador of classical Persian music in the United States and has captivated audiences in prestigious venues such as The Hollywood Bowl.

Mehdi Bagheri, born in 1980, is a well known Kurdish Iranian musician who began a serious study of music at the age of 11. After exploring many different instruments including Tombak and Setar, he found his true love in the Kamancheh. Mehdi received his masters degree from the Arak University in 2004 and was a student of master of Iranian music, Ardeshir Kamkar. Mehdi has performed around the world and recorded with the masters of Persian and world music.
