An Evening of Duduk with Albert Vardanyan

Saturday, February 21st, 2009
7:00 p.m.
8:30 p.m.

The Museum of Jurassic Technology
9341 Venice Boulevard
Culver City, CA 90232

$13 General Donation / $10 Museum members, students, seniors

Albert Vardanyan has played the duduk for over 30 years, beginning at the age of nine. He received a masters degree in duduk from the Komitas Conservatory in Yerevan, and has performed on the duduk, clarinet, shvi, accordion, & zurna on stages and in studios all over the globe. Mr. Vardanyan also teaches and makes by hand ramish — the duduk’s wide, duckbill-shaped reed.

The duduk is a double reed woodwind instrument made from an apricot root that has been played in Armenia since well before the birth of Christ. Visitors to the Museum of Jurassic Technology will recognize the duduk’s uniquely plaintive tone from its presence in “The Eye of the Needle” exhibit.

Nota Bene: Mr. Vardanyan will perform in the Tula Tearoom. Due to the unique restrictions of the space, we shall not be able to seat latecomers once the performance has started.

ALL SEATS ARE WILL-CALL. No tickets will be mailed to you. Please address queries to events@mjt.org. If you wish to be added to our events mailing list, please write "SUBSCRIBE" in the subject header of your e-mail.
