Model of Sir John Soane's Museum

This detailed scale model depicts the facade to Sir John Soane's Museum at No. 13 Lincoln's Inn Field in London.

Sir John Soane became Professor of Architecture at The Royal Academy in 1806. He purchased No.13 Lincoln’s Inn Fields soon after, having previously lived at No.12. He demolished and rebuilt these houses in two phases between 1808 and 1812.

A vast collection of drawings, paintings, antiquities and models are now on display in the Museum which Soane collected during his lifetime. In 1833 whilst Soane was still alive, an act of parliament was passed that meant the building would pass to the care of a board of trustees, rather than his son (with whom he had a life-long feud). The act stipulated that Soane’s belongings ‘should be preserved as nearly as possible exactly as they were left at that time.’ The Museum of Jurassic Technology considers the Soane Museum to be a Sympathetic Institution.

Model measures approximately 8-inches high and is handmade in Bath, England by master model maker Timothy Richards and his team of craftsmen.
