The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Information is very pleased to announce an evening of introspective devotional music from Ashkenazi traditions performed by Joshua Kaufman on the accordion.
Sunday, March 18th, 2018
All seats for both performances have been reserved. If you would like to be placed on our standby list, please email your request--including your name & phone number--to events@mjt.org. If tickets become available we will call the phone number you've given to notify you.
Joshua Kaufman co-founded and performs with The Blasting Company, the Cory Beers Cimbalom Band, and the California Feetwarmers. For this solo accordion performance he will depart from the often raucous dance music he performs with these ensembles to present an evening of slow, meditative music drawn from the tradition of Eastern Europe's Ashkenazi Jewry. Much of the evening's repertoire will be drawn from Hassidic 'Dveykus Niggunim', wordless melodies composed by Hassidic masters of the 18th and 19th centuries that use repetitive, deliberately-paced themes to engender moments of deep introspection and devotion.
