Variations on a Caribou: String Figure Lore & Its Preservation
A Presentation by Mark Sherman, Director of the International String Figure Association

String figures are designs woven on the hands with a loop of string, and their astonishing complexity both in construction and meaning is the subject of a presentation by Mark Sherman of the ISFA addressing the knowledge & rituals of the string figure tradition & the challenges faced in collecting & preserving its rich lore.

Mr. Sherman & the ISFA provided invaluable contributions to the exhibit "Fairly Safely Venture: Cat's Cradles & their Venerable Collectors," now on view at the Museum of Jurassic Technology.
