Phantom Rooms is a new composition that makes acoustic maps with a network of laptops and acoustic instruments. The musicians exchange these maps over the network, so that rooms appear in other rooms as acoustic phantoms, their resonant frequencies disturbing the acoustics of the rooms they haunt.

Members of the audience mix the composition as they wander from room to room. Expect long tones, gently bubbling feedback, and improvisational flux in this almost-hour-long performance.

With Casey Thomas Anderson (laptop/saxophone), Matt Barbier (trombone), Stephanie Smith (laptop/violin), Ashley Walters ('cello), and Mark Trayle (laptop). This is the U.S. premiere of Phantom Rooms.

Mark Trayle works in a variety of media including live electronic music, installations, improvisation, and compositions for chamber ensembles. Performances and exhibitions include Ars Electronica, t-u-b-e (Munich), DEAF (Rotterdam), Resistance Fluctuations (LA), net_condition (ZKM Karlsruhe), Sea and Spacce (LA), Pro Musica Nova, Format5 (Berlin), Inventionen (Berlin), and Resonant Forms (LA). Recent collaborators include Muhal Richard Abrams, David Behrman, Jason Kahn, Christian Kesten, Toshimaru Nakamura, Andrea Neumann & Sabine Ercklentz, Wadada Leo Smith, and The Hub.
